pink and green peek

They tell me I only have 10 weeks to go until baby arrives. So I am trying to get a few creations finished in the next 6 weeks.  I have tons of inspiration, but not much time. These are (some of) my favorite Christmas presents, they are now a fixture on my bedside table and have me dreaming of beautiful new creations;

I have 2 baby quilts planned, this one finally pulled together after a trip to Cloth and Bobbin last week. Some of the fabric was in my stash from the summer but together they look amazing!   A peek;

Last Christmas Present Mailed!

Yeah yeah, it’s January 3rd and I just finished this Christmas present yesterday but , hey- at least it is still quilt season! She did have this to open on Christmas morning, so I am not a complete slacker. I did a quick photograph before rushing to the post office. I was in such a rush I didn’t even measure it’s final size to make sure it was big enough for a queen bed! fingers crossed!

I used my new labels for the first time. I got them from Mel on etsy and have been itching to use one.

The back is the 2nd half of an Ikea duvet cover that I also used for Lauren’s quilt. Slowly busting my fabric stash!

Quilted Pillowcase

Much much respect to photographers who take interior shots and they look like pottery barn catalog pictures. I rather love these pillowcases but could not find the patience to keep smoothing wrinkles. That seems to be a theme mid pregnancy. Lack of patience. Hopefully it will wane because I suspect I will be needing some in the near future.

These are made from the scraps from the Christmas present for my sister in law. But I think they turned out pretty perfect. A nice little extra for her for Christmas.

Purple and Blue quilt, a work in progress…

IMG_2208Lots of work around here. Paul fixed the sheetrock in baby’s room and has been spackling for days. I think I will get to paint this weekend. I finally decided on a mural- and I will try to remember the before, during and after pictures.  Pawning off stuff on friends to make room for the baby. Seeing lots of theatre shows (and laughing loudly!) and  trying to get in some social time with friends before the big baby event.  Still time before Christmas to finish this quilt, I might even start another!! Oh, and a picture of the dog being an activist at a rally recently.

Green- pink- brown for baby

In theory this quilt is for a baby that is due in September. However if it gets sold at the Farmers Market next Saturday I will have to make another one for that September baby. Mom requested green with a touch of pink and brown. Which is not exactly what this became. But who can really blame me? The Heather Ross VW van fabric found it’s way in and I couldn’t convince it to come back out.

IMG_1844 And pink minkee? Well…  it was in the off-cut bin with a good markdown, and I love a good markdown.

IMG_1847 This is called a “card trick” square. They have always been very difficult for me. I have tried a couple different ways to make all the little points line up and quite honestly- this is the best I have ever done, and it is far from perfect. I seem to loose the outside points every time. I always revisit it after I give up in frustration but I have never been able to make them well.

Doesn’t this look familiar? Blue and Brown for Baby

I enjoyed a weekend with no real plans and was able to finish up 2 quilts that have been “marinating” for a while.  This one is every single little scrap left over from the wedding quilt from 2 weeks ago. Along with some pieced together batting. It is almost a genuine scrap quilt but I did buy the blue minkee backing specially for it.

I am  regretting not using a true binding, however not enough to rip it out and start over. One more quilt for the Farmers Market!IMG_1842

Wedding Quilt- Blue Bento Box

I kinda love the bento box pattern. I don’t know if you can tell from my other quilts here here and here. Oh wait- here too.

IMG_1825

I have never made one for myself, but I think that will be coming soon. I am having trouble giving this one away. But I did tell the bride it was coming, so I don’t have much choice. I was trying to keep it a secret, but the wedding is tomorrow so the chances she is checking my wee website today are pretty slim.

I am so relieved to have this quilt done! So many projects to get working on, family arriving soon and  our annual huge July 4th party next weekend. July 5th I will be hiding out for a while to prepare for my “Artist of the Week” table at the Lansdowne Farmers Market, July 25th. I am planning to relax in August!

70′s Zig Zag Baby Quilt

My hubby says this color combination makes him think of the 70′s and when he says it, he says it with a wrinkled nose. None the less; I rather like it and am really pleased to have used my kelly green minke so easily. It just looked SO green when it came home from the store I had doubts that I would ever find a home for it.

Zig Zag Quilt, a peek

img_1016

Sewing took a brief sabbatical this last week while I lay on the living room floor trying to alleviate my very specific lower left back pain. I blame this pain on my recent 30th birthday, becoming 30- not the birthday in particular. I managed to make some rice crispy treats and plant a few daffodil bulbs but that was the extent of my weekend. Feeling much better last night, I started a baby quilt with the ever popular zig zag pattern. I got most of these fabrics at the Maine Quilt show this summer and love how they all mesh. Paul thinks it is vintage 70′s and proclaimed his dislike of all things aqua. Luckly it is not for him…

Yellow and Green, Bento Box Variation for Baby

I finished the commissioned quilt last night and just finished the indoor photo shoot because it is raining. Too bad the world series can’t move inside! There is a lot of excitement in Philly is about the possible rain cancellation today. Anyway, the quilt->

What is that white ribbon doing in the middle two squares?  I ran so disastrously low on that bird fabric that the ribbon fudged me the extra inch I needed. I should have added some more on the border  to make it look a little more involved, such is the problem with 20/20 hindsight.

I love the minke on the back. I should say I love the minke now that I learned how to use it. I used some Heat -n- Bond lite to baste the minke to the batting. I made a disaster of a couple other projects with minke because it has a terrible tendency to stretch and bunch and this eliminated the problem completely. I had some early moments of anxiety because it felt like there was a sheet of crinkly newspaper in the quilt before I washed it. But a hot wash and a tumble in the dryer has it feeling like a soft cozy quilt.
