Orange and Purple

I made the mistake once before of asking an engaged couple what colors they would like their quilt. It didn’t turn out so bad last time. It fact I really liked it by the time I was done.  But this time? I am a more than a little fearful at the end result. Although, in the years since I last made an orange quilt for my brother in law there are much nicer oranges available… Or maybe I just grab them at every opportunity knowing how rare a nice orange fabric is…

oh wait! I just found another orange quilt I did. I loved that one. Sigh, why did I sell it?

Pink and Green Baby Quilt

For our baby!

I have spent a long time on this quilt, partly because my big belly makes sewing a little tougher, but partly because I wanted it to be awesome.  I think it ended up pretty awesome.

I used some scraps for the back, not really what I had imagined in the beginning, but I am pretty pleased with it. The minty green stripes are minkee, I think maybe I should have made the whole back minkee, but the pinwheel squares were too hard to resist.

pink and green peek

They tell me I only have 10 weeks to go until baby arrives. So I am trying to get a few creations finished in the next 6 weeks.  I have tons of inspiration, but not much time. These are (some of) my favorite Christmas presents, they are now a fixture on my bedside table and have me dreaming of beautiful new creations;

I have 2 baby quilts planned, this one finally pulled together after a trip to Cloth and Bobbin last week. Some of the fabric was in my stash from the summer but together they look amazing!   A peek;

Last Christmas Present Mailed!

Yeah yeah, it’s January 3rd and I just finished this Christmas present yesterday but , hey- at least it is still quilt season! She did have this to open on Christmas morning, so I am not a complete slacker. I did a quick photograph before rushing to the post office. I was in such a rush I didn’t even measure it’s final size to make sure it was big enough for a queen bed! fingers crossed!

I used my new labels for the first time. I got them from Mel on etsy and have been itching to use one.

The back is the 2nd half of an Ikea duvet cover that I also used for Lauren’s quilt. Slowly busting my fabric stash!

Quilted Pillowcase

Much much respect to photographers who take interior shots and they look like pottery barn catalog pictures. I rather love these pillowcases but could not find the patience to keep smoothing wrinkles. That seems to be a theme mid pregnancy. Lack of patience. Hopefully it will wane because I suspect I will be needing some in the near future.

These are made from the scraps from the Christmas present for my sister in law. But I think they turned out pretty perfect. A nice little extra for her for Christmas.

Purple and Blue quilt, a work in progress…

IMG_2208Lots of work around here. Paul fixed the sheetrock in baby’s room and has been spackling for days. I think I will get to paint this weekend. I finally decided on a mural- and I will try to remember the before, during and after pictures.  Pawning off stuff on friends to make room for the baby. Seeing lots of theatre shows (and laughing loudly!) and  trying to get in some social time with friends before the big baby event.  Still time before Christmas to finish this quilt, I might even start another!! Oh, and a picture of the dog being an activist at a rally recently.

Green- pink- brown for baby

In theory this quilt is for a baby that is due in September. However if it gets sold at the Farmers Market next Saturday I will have to make another one for that September baby. Mom requested green with a touch of pink and brown. Which is not exactly what this became. But who can really blame me? The Heather Ross VW van fabric found it’s way in and I couldn’t convince it to come back out.

IMG_1844 And pink minkee? Well…  it was in the off-cut bin with a good markdown, and I love a good markdown.

IMG_1847 This is called a “card trick” square. They have always been very difficult for me. I have tried a couple different ways to make all the little points line up and quite honestly- this is the best I have ever done, and it is far from perfect. I seem to loose the outside points every time. I always revisit it after I give up in frustration but I have never been able to make them well.

Red and Pink Scrap Quilt

Before my fan-tab-o-lus vacation I spent many an hour sewing like a demon to have lots of things for the Lansdowne Arts and Crafts Fair. Which was subsequently rained out, of course. The enrollment $25 seems to have been non-refundable which is kinda lame, but the plus side is my etsy store now has lots of good stuff in it and my new retail outlet; Birthmark is also well stocked for a while.  I even managed to make a new quilt to show at the fair, which was so fast and easy it makes me want to whip a couple more out. I had been saving all these little scraps for a mega scrap quilt but the pink and red were just too appealing together…

the birds seem to be popular for baby dresses, hopefully the same holds true for quilts.

il_fullxfull.71043120I am working on a blue and brown quilt for a wedding right now, but who knows if she reads the blog so no pictures until later…

Seedlings and Sewing

just some pictures from our works in progress this weekend…img_1388

Philadelphia is in the midst of a heat wave, record breaking 90 degree temps has brought summer before spring, so planting has been put on hold until it cools off, a strange way to think of spring planting…

img_1386 And a WIP quilt, a variation on a coin stack quilt, whipped up with the precious scraps from my red-pink phase…

Pink and Red Baby Quilt

img_13692

It was sold before it was even finished! I would have thought twice about selling it if I knew how much I would love it, the pink and red, the lattice pattern, the dress with the same fabric, all of it makes my heart sing.
