Diaper Bag

Only 14 days until my due date, although the doctor is pretty convinced I will be going very late… In other news

I had a burst of energy last night and dusted off the sewing machine. Poor sewing machine hasn’t seen much action in the last two months but I found myself panicked that there was nothing suitable in my life for a diaper bag. I had been saving the fabric for a baby dress, but decided my husband *might* use the diaper bag if it wasn’t pink. We will see on that one, it is still pretty girly if I say so myself.

I printed out the pattern from Oh, Fransson for her Margaret Bag more than a year ago and when I found it everything just fell into place. I added the accent stripe to show off those 2 other lovely fabrics . I should have made the stripe a little thicker maybe? In my head the stripe would have popped a little more. But I like the detail it added.

Born with a silver spoon, or a silver bubble wand

Filed under: baby — perrymoffitt @ 3:22 pm

Never before have I received a gift in one of these bags. But baby-to-be got her very first one yesterday.  I have every intention of spoiling this little baby-to-be rotten, but I have one amazing friend who has bestowed upon our still unborn her very first box from Tiffany & Co. There is the good angel on one shoulder telling me  it feels silly to splurge like this when there are starving children in the world, but as CNN has been saying, there is some serious “frugal fatigue” going on on in the world and an heirloom like this just feels so good sitting in the palm of my hand.  I love it and it’s gorgeous styling. And it’s givers are so well represented in the high style. I just love it. And it isn’t for me after all, it is for the baby.  Without further ado- Baby’s sterling silver bubble wand…

Knitting is not my thing, luckily I am the only one

Filed under: baby — perrymoffitt @ 2:42 pm

I am a lucky lucky person. I had my baby shower this past weekend. In my head I thought it would be a little food, some friends and a couple bottles and books in gift bags. Holy Cow, my friends and family blew me away with their generosity. The pile of presents kept growing and halfway though I had to take a breather. Without boring the crafty audience out there with every little amazing thing we got I thought I would dedicate this post to knitting and crocheting, two talents I have never developed.

Did I ever tell the story about the one and only knitting project I did? It took me ten years, no exaggeration, when I finished it in 2009 I was using the magazine I started it with dated 1999. It was lopsided and so wonky that pear shaped doesn’t even begin to describe it.  I use it on the couch and almost a year after finishing it I still find dropped stitches that I have to tie off. I call it my Afgan-istan.  My own personal war, it took forever and still didn’t turn out very well.

this amazing sweater is from Aili, who rarely has empty needles , I might even classify her as an addict. I am so impressed at the stripes! I can’t imagine I could ever get stripes to look so good.

this charmer just melts my heart, those cutey ears! made by the talented Kristy!

This wonder was made by Lucy. I can’t even imagine the math involved in this, I keep picking it up and staring at it in awe.

And the blankets! with hoods (Dorothy) and tassels (Bec) and perfect stroller blankets (Karen). I am swimming in homemade goodness.

Pink and Green Baby Quilt

For our baby!

I have spent a long time on this quilt, partly because my big belly makes sewing a little tougher, but partly because I wanted it to be awesome.  I think it ended up pretty awesome.

I used some scraps for the back, not really what I had imagined in the beginning, but I am pretty pleased with it. The minty green stripes are minkee, I think maybe I should have made the whole back minkee, but the pinwheel squares were too hard to resist.

Ruffle Foot

One of the Christmas presents I requested this year had our new baby in mind. A ruffle foot for my sewing machine seemed like a must have for all the upcoming girl things in our world. I have not quite mastered it yet. *ahem*.  Breaking two needles in one sitting is not my usual style. But I am getting the hang of it. Although, if anyone out there had a ah-hah moment they would like to share about the Janome ruffle foot I would be happy to listen!

My mother is a notorious bargain hunter, her voice squeaking when she sees a sign for church rummage sale or thrift shop. She picked up a load of various baby clothes at some moment and I am slowly transforming them, as I did my own clothes when I was a girl and she brought home “vintage” treasures. This long sleeve tee won’t fit baby for more than a year but when it does I am so excited to see her twirl in it.

The nursery is coming right along, there are a couple glaring absences, like a mattress for the gorgeous hand-me-down crib but I am filling in some of the list with things I can make, like this dust ruffle.

I wish you could see the fabric better in the picture, the animals have names like gustav, alfonze and mona which for some reason tickles me to no end.  For trim I used a precious few scraps of the red and pink farmers market fabric I found on ebay for a handsome sum that-shall-not-be -mentioned-here-but-I-do-not-regret-for-a-second. I have plans for a red and pink crib quilt for this baby. Which I guess I should get a start on seeing as I have reached my 32 week! Yikes! where did the time go?

It is not often that I smack my head and say “why didn’t I think of that”.

But I just did.

pink and green peek

Filed under: Cybele's Crafty Good Stuff,Quilts — perrymoffitt @ 12:20 pm

They tell me I only have 10 weeks to go until baby arrives. So I am trying to get a few creations finished in the next 6 weeks.  I have tons of inspiration, but not much time. These are (some of) my favorite Christmas presents, they are now a fixture on my bedside table and have me dreaming of beautiful new creations;

I have 2 baby quilts planned, this one finally pulled together after a trip to Cloth and Bobbin last week. Some of the fabric was in my stash from the summer but together they look amazing!   A peek;

Last Christmas Present Mailed!

Yeah yeah, it’s January 3rd and I just finished this Christmas present yesterday but , hey- at least it is still quilt season! She did have this to open on Christmas morning, so I am not a complete slacker. I did a quick photograph before rushing to the post office. I was in such a rush I didn’t even measure it’s final size to make sure it was big enough for a queen bed! fingers crossed!

I used my new labels for the first time. I got them from Mel on etsy and have been itching to use one.

The back is the 2nd half of an Ikea duvet cover that I also used for Lauren’s quilt. Slowly busting my fabric stash!

My Irmi lamp!

I find so much inspiration on other quilter’s websites, but this time the inspiration was not for a quilt. I had been looking for cute lamps for the nursery at Target and the various baby stores but not liking the plastic-made-in-china stuff I was finding. Made by Rae gave me a designer name that let me search ebay to find the cutest lamp ever! So, when looking for darling lamps, check ebay with the name Irmi. I snagged this one for $20, but I have seen them go for as much as $60. About the same price as the Target lamps,  but the quality is far superior.
