In about a month we will be having a first birthday party for our amazing baby girl. And I am getting ready.

I am a planner. I like to plan things. Planning is almost better than the actual event for me sometimes. None the less, I have restrained from renting a pony. And there will be no confetti. And to those of you that say she won’t remember it? I know.

But there will be pictures and stories and legend and that is how a family grows. Don’t we all have memories that we borrow from legend? And legendary this will be. Hooray Birthdays!

I am not very good at explaining how I make things but I noticed this post is getting a lot of hits from the google search ”how to make fabric birthday banner” so I am adding this little list.
For this project I used a yard of red felt, a full yard of triangle fabric, the letter fabric totaled around 1/2 yard. If your name is longer, add more!
1) Cut felt triangles that are 10″ across the top and 12″ long, cut the same amount of fabric triangles only a smidge smaller, 9″ across the top, 11″ long. For special flare, cut the fabric triangles with your pinking shears (zig zag scissors)
2) Free hand with bubble letters your message “happy birthday auntie bernice” with pencil on CONTRASTING fabric. Cut with really good fabric scissors, not pinking shears this time.
3) Top stitch letters with 1/4″ edge allowance to only the fabric triangles, not the felt. Make sure to leave a little space on the top of the triangles for the ribbon.
4) Sew the fabric triangles to the felt around edges.
5) Sew triangles to ribbon, I recommend leaving each word a separate strand, with 10″ of ribbon on each end.
